Overview
The Ruud RD18AY36AJVC is a 3 ton outdoor heat pump from the RD18AY series — side-discharge universal heat pump with r-454b refrigerant. Rated at 18.0 SEER2 with R-454B (A2L) refrigerant, it provides both heating and cooling from a single outdoor unit, with no gas supply or combustion venting required. A variable speed compressor serves homes of roughly 1,400-1,700 square feet.
Matching
Pair with a matched air handler and supplemental heat kit for an all-electric system, or with a gas furnace for a dual fuel system that switches to gas heat in the coldest weather. Both configurations must use AHRI-certified component matches.
Installation Requirements
Operates on 208/230V single-phase 60 Hz power, maximum overcurrent protection 30 amps. Heat pumps draw more electrical load than cooling-only equipment — confirm panel capacity before installation. R-454B requires an EPA-certified technician with A2L training.

Shipping & Delivery
Can a heat pump heat a house in cold weather?
Yes, down to roughly 35°F on most systems, below which a supplemental heat kit or gas furnace carries the load. In Arkansas’s climate zone a heat pump handles the large majority of the heating season on its own.
What else do I need?
A matched air handler and heat kit for an all-electric system, or a gas furnace for dual fuel. The combination must be AHRI certified.
Does this need a bigger electrical panel?
Possibly. Heat pumps draw more electrical load than cooling-only equipment, and a supplemental heat kit adds significantly more. Have your panel capacity checked before ordering.

Kool Air & Heat LLC is not responsible for injuries, damage or losses caused by improper installation, service or handling of equipment by others. HVAC equipment should be installed and serviced by qualified, licensed professionals, following the manufacturer’s instructions, industry standards and local building codes.
Responsibility for installation, maintenance and use rests with whoever performs that work. Nothing in this notice limits any rights you have under applicable law.
All HVAC installations should be carried out by a licensed, experienced professional. Incorrect installation can cause equipment malfunction, reduced performance, higher energy use and serious safety hazards.
Most manufacturers require installation by a licensed HVAC contractor, and many also require online product registration (often within 60 days of installation), to provide their full warranty coverage. Installation by an unqualified person may reduce or void the manufacturer’s warranty — check the warranty certificate for your equipment.

While we are committed to product safety and quality, certain materials used in manufacturing may include trace amounts of chemicals listed under Proposition 65. These substances can be found in items such as coatings, adhesives, plastics, and metals.
Please note that the presence of these chemicals does not necessarily indicate a health risk when the products are used as intended. Nevertheless, we recommend taking proper precautions when handling or using any product, especially by following all instructions and warnings provided.

Kool Air & Heat LLC is not responsible for delays caused by carriers, weather or other circumstances beyond our control. The estimated delivery window shown on product pages is calculated from our typical processing and transit times; it is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date. Freight carriers call ahead to schedule delivery.
Please provide an accurate, accessible delivery address — additional charges caused by an incorrect address or a missed delivery appointment are the customer’s responsibility. See our Shipping Policy for details.
Please inspect all equipment at delivery, before the driver leaves. Note any visible damage or missing items on the delivery receipt (bill of lading), photograph the equipment and packaging, and contact us within 48 hours of delivery.
Damage that is not noted on the delivery receipt is treated by carriers as concealed damage, which is much harder to claim and may limit our ability to assist with a carrier claim or a damage-related return.
Return requests must be made within 14 days of delivery and require a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Equipment must be unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging. Damaged, defective or incorrect items must be reported within 48 hours of delivery. Custom, special-order and final-sale items are not returnable.
For returns that are not due to our error, return shipping is the customer’s responsibility and a restocking fee of up to 15% may apply. See our Return Policy and Refund Policy for full terms.
New equipment is covered by the manufacturer’s limited warranty only, subject to the manufacturer’s terms, including product registration where required. Kool Air & Heat LLC does not add its own warranty on equipment, but we will help you file a claim with the manufacturer: contact us at sales@koolairandheatstore.com or (501) 206-7512 with your proof of purchase and the serial number.
Installation and repair work performed by Kool Air & Heat LLC carries our workmanship warranty, described in our Warranty Policy.
We strive to ensure all pricing, product descriptions, and availability are accurate. However, we reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions, and to change or update information at any time without prior notice.
To the extent permitted by law, Kool Air & Heat LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from the use of our products, website or services, and our total liability is limited to the purchase price of the product or service concerned. Some states do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
AHRI-certified matches for RD18AY36AJVC
The RD18AY36AJVC appears in 6 AHRI certificates and is certified to pair with the 9 components listed below. Efficiency ratings belong to a matched pairing, not to a single unit, so substituting an uncertified component changes the system's rated performance and voids the certificate that rebate programmes and permit offices ask for.
Air Handlers 2
Evaporator Coils 2
Gas Furnaces 4
Heat Kits 1

8 of these 9 components are stocked and linked above. Certificate numbers for each pairing are shown on the matching system pages.
Buying from a licensed contractor
Kool Air & Heat LLC is a licensed, insured HVAC contractor based in Heber Springs, Arkansas, serving Little Rock, Conway, Cabot, Searcy, Batesville, Jacksonville, Benton, Bryant and communities across the state. Within our service area we can supply and install this equipment, pull the permit, register the manufacturer warranty and commission the system.
Buying equipment and arranging your own installer separately is common and perfectly workable. Be aware that a manufacturer warranty generally requires professional installation and timely registration — confirm your installer will complete both, because an unregistered warranty is discovered at the worst possible moment.
Ordering from outside Arkansas? We ship to all lower 48 states. Line up a licensed installer before the equipment arrives and have them confirm duct sizing and clearances in advance. It is the single most common cause of a delayed installation.
